Practical Data Analysis and Reporting with BIRT: Open-source Eclipse-based Business Intelligence Tool for Fast Report Design | Business Analytics, Financial Reports, Dashboard Creation

This is a fair tutorial type book for a beginner, but a bit out of date - 2008 - nearly 10 years old. Since more and more companies are adopting this BI reporting tool, it's time to have someone write a new book. If I could figure out how to connect up using JDBC to my SQL Server databases, I'd write a book on this application. I am trying to learn the ins and outs of this software for work and it is very frustrating that no user friendly tutorials or books exist that help. This book is pretty fair, but is confusing when it describes how to do any particular task. I was trying to find the dialogs on screen to match those in the book and they aren't exact. For those of you who write these types of books, take a step back and write instructions on every little detail of a task - this book and the others I purchased to learn BIRT make too many assumptions and skip over important steps to complete a task.I wish there were another more complete tutorial book that is newer and works with our current technology (SQL Server 2016) and talks about the current drivers needed. Also, BIRT is not easy to set up, so installation instructions with current screen shots would be helpful since Actuate no longer has BIRT and is now under Eclipse.
